How to create a WiFi QR code

Choose Wi-Fi in the generator above. Enter the network name (SSID) exactly as your device displays it, including capitalization and spaces. Select the security type that matches your router, then enter the password. For a network that does not broadcast its name, enable the hidden network option.

Choose your colors or leave the default dark code on white. Download a PNG for a digital welcome message or an SVG for a printed sign. Scan the exported file with a phone connected to mobile data before sharing it.

  • Use a guest network when sharing access with visitors.
  • Check the SSID, password and security setting against your router.
  • Keep the white border and enough contrast for a reliable scan.

What happens when someone scans it?

The code contains a WiFi connection payload with the network name, security setting and password. Compatible phone cameras or QR readers offer to join the network. Support depends on the phone, operating system and scanner; a QR code cannot guarantee automatic connection on every device.

QR Now supports WPA/WPA2, WEP and open-network payloads. Enterprise networks that need individual usernames, certificates or a sign-in portal are outside this simple connection format. A QR code also cannot extend your router’s coverage.

Keep your WiFi password private

Generation happens in your browser, but the resulting QR code is not encrypted. Anyone who can scan the code can read the included credentials. Place guest-network signs where intended guests can see them and avoid posting private WiFi codes publicly.

Your draft and recent exports can remain in local browser storage. Clear history and reset the draft after using a shared computer. If you change the network password, generate a new code and replace old signs; static QR content cannot be edited after printing.

Make a useful WiFi sign

Add a short caption such as ‘Scan to join guest WiFi.’ Print the code on a flat, matte surface and leave the quiet zone clear. A nearby label with the network name helps guests confirm they are joining the right network. Test at the distance and lighting conditions where guests will use it.

You can add a small logo, but decoration should never cover the QR’s corner markers. Test the final downloaded file again after changing the style, size or logo.

Frequently asked questions

Is the WiFi QR generator free?

Yes. WiFi codes, custom styles, logo upload and PNG or SVG downloads are free, with no account or watermark.

Does a WiFi QR code expire?

The code has no built-in expiry. It works while the encoded network settings remain valid and the network is in range.

Can I hide the password inside the QR?

No. QR encoding is not encryption. A QR reader can reveal the network credentials even when they are not printed as text.
